Your wedding
day arrives. You've been planning this day for months, maybe even years. Who am
I kidding, plenty of girls start planning their wedding day at the age of four!
All the details are worked out. You've selected the perfect venue, the perfect
dress, the perfect flowers. You are standing with a man you love. You are
surrounded by friends and family who have supported you through the years. The
moment is here. Take a deep breath and take everything in. Relax. Most
importantly, do not rush!
From the
perspective of an experienced wedding photographer, the beautiful moments at a
wedding are fairly predictable. The father of the bride talks to his little girl
one last time before he gives her away, the groom's first sight of the radiant
bride, the first kiss, the realization that the marriage is official and the
relief and joy that comes with the thought. Wonderful moments are happening, and
the photographer's job is to catch them from the best angle.

Some couples,
however, seem to be in a big hurry. The first kiss is a quick, embarrassed peck.
The stroll down the aisle becomes a race to the finish line. Nerves play a role
in causing a hurried ceremony. When this happens the photographs of the event
suffer. Photojournalist-type photographers try to capture the event as it
happens, and cannot stop the bride and groom to ask them to kiss once more at
the front of the church because the photo op was missed. If the bride and groom
can relax, they will allow their personalities to show. A relaxed bride and
groom make for stunning expressions and wonderful, moment-capturing pictures.
The photographer also has a chance to take the time to move to a spot where the
light is best for the image. This is where the photojournalist wedding
photographer shines brightest. Make sure to give your photographer time to
capture the true essence of what is taking place. Years from now these pictures
will be the majority of your memory from your wedding day.
Try to enter your
wedding ceremony with a feeling of calm. Do your best to relax. Breathe deeply.
Soak in everything. It is okay to take a moment to turn around and look at the
rows of supporters who have come to cheer you on. This is your day! Watch how
your family and friends react and interact. Look for the beautiful details that
you worked so hard on. Your wedding day will be over before you know it, so do
your best to allow the time to pass slowly.
